7/2/2020 0 Comments Dehydration DilemmaThis blog post is NOT sponsored by Hidrate I wanted to talk about something that is very real for a ton of patients, myself included. Many of those living with IBD, struggle with dehydration. This, of course, comes in many different forms and is especially difficult to deal with in a flare. In a flare, the tissue in the colon is more inflamed. This prevents the colon from absorbing its nutrients effectively, one of which is water. This becomes even harder for patients with ostomies, since their colon is either detached or removed. Understand this is the information that I gathered when doing research, and may be medically inaccurate. Anyone that has an ostomy, feel free to message me/comment to give more information, since I don't have one myself. However, I do deal with dehydration myself. It was something that I had to get under control. I was always had trouble keeping track of how much water I drank throughout the day. At the end of the night, I would get leg cramps due to dehydration. I feel this the most on days that I work long, since I tend not to drink that much at work. Now I've been using "Hidrate," for a couple of weeks. With it, I've been able to keep track of how much I've been drinking. Essentially, the water bottle connects to your phone via Bluetooth where you can see your progress. You can set your goal for the day manually or what the app recommends, and then it will remind you to drink. It's definitely kept me more motivated. Even though this post is not a sponsor, I wanted to share my opinion and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Plus, dehydration is something to take seriously and very real with IBD patients. Make sure to look out for yourself and others. :)
