2/11/2020 0 Comments Macys EmergencySummer air, after school, diarrhea. That's a normal day right? Well, not quite. This was about a week before I was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I had seen a few doctors, but nothing had been confirmed yet, thus meaning I was getting treatment yet. Anyway, it was prom season. Prom was the first week of may. My mom and I went to buy my prom dress about five days before. I don't remember the exact date, but it was somewhere around there. It was my first prom, so I wanted it to be special, but not expensive. This is why Macy's was the best place to go to find a dress that was affordable. Since I haven't started treatment yet, I was still experiencing all of the classic colitis symptoms: abdominal pain, bloody stools, and URGENCY. That one was the worst. I never knew when I would have to go to the bathroom, but it was always all of the time. Once the urgency sets in, it's 0-100 in just a matter of seconds. We were now in the middle of Macy's and had just picked out the beautiful black dress. I was headed to the fitting room to try it on. I put it on, and spin a little in the mirror, admiring how well it fit. It was slightly too long, but that was inevitable. Every dress would be too long on me. As I was trying it on, all of a sudden, the urgency hits me. I get the dress off as fast as possible, put on my jeans and T-shirt, and bolt out of the fitting room. My mom sees me hurrying past her, I hand the dress to her, and head straight towards the bathroom. Long story short, I did not make it. I decided to just throw my underwear away in the Macy's second floor bathroom, and clean up. I felt awkward and wanted to leave. But we still needed shoes. We bought the dress and heels, and I could not have been happier to get home. It was embarrassing and I was embarrassed. Anyways, prom turned out fine a few days later. I went with my best friend and we had the best time. A little dress mishap, and we laughed for hours. This is definitely something that I look back on and smile. It's quite amusing actually, it makes a funny story now.
